What would it be like to own a Thoroughbred racehorse? Can you imagine the excitement of watching your colt speeding down the stretch and flashing across the finish line, way out in front of the other horses? What a thrill! But what’s really involved, and what surprises should a new racehorse owner expect?

Prospective owners, as well as those who have already purchased a racing hopeful, can dip into the experience and learn about the costs and other factors of horse ownership at the Thoroughbred Ownership Seminar. Presented by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) April 18 at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky, the seminar will educate attendees about what to consider when buying a racehorse; how to select and build a working relationship with a trainer; costs, taxes, insurance, and other business topics; and how to access more resources on horse ownership.

Classroom time will be followed by a trackside session where attendees will experience the whirlwind of backstretch activity when horses are groomed, saddled, and readied for the next race. This session will be led by actual racehorse trainers who will bring the “virtual ownership” experience alive through their familiarity with every aspect of a racing day.

After a buffet lunch, attendees can enjoy an afternoon of racing at the historic Keeneland racetrack. Registration is discounted for current and new TOBA members.
